update + motivate

I’m back from my month-ish long hiatus, and ready to talk allll about being on that g-r-i-n-d baby!

I know, I took a fat minute to get back online but honestly it was a much needed break. I took the entire month of August off from posting online because honestly I didn’t want to post anything anywhere unless it was some solid content. Being that August had so much going on, I couldn’t focus on content creation and thus – no posts!

Anywho! I’m back today to give you a BIG update on the happenings in my life at the moment! To begin, I moved into my lovely new apartment in Arizona around the second week of August. I have three amazing roommates who are also my Delta Gamma sisters! I have my own bedroom, bathroom, walk-in closet and desk nook, etc. which you will for sure see at a later date 😉 !

Now back-track a sec to April of this year; I started working at a local golf course in Arizona as a Beverage Cart Girl. I have absolutely loved my experience there and I’ve been working there all summer! (AKA, still working there!!)

Fast forward now for me – after moving into my new apartment, I began working for the amazing… Red Bull!! I am super excited to announce that I am now officially a Red Bull Wings Team member for Arizona! In my first month with this job I have made some great friends and had some awesome opportunities. I’m thinking of writing a post in “Day in the Life” style for either of these jobs… thoughts? Leave me a comment 🙂

Around my third week of August… I was offered a social media and pr internship position at Ali and Ariel! Ali and Ariel is a Greek Licensed apparel and accessories brand that allows sororities and fraternities to make custom designs for their chapters and events. I have been following and obsessing over this company since I was a freshman at ASU and I’m thrilled to be apart of the team! This first month-ish of interning has been so impactful and educational in all the right ways. My experience thus far has already been so hands-on and I’m learning a lot more about things I am passionate about!

On top of all those awesome things I am still a full time student at Arizona State University! This is where the main points of this post are located people…

Today I wanted to address the fact that HELLO college, part-time and full-time jobs, internships, social lives, clubs, etc. can be freaking busy and stressful. I am juggling a ton this semester and I know that there are people who are doing much more. I wanted to take the time – in this post to say, GO YOU. It was a difficult decision for me to take on this many opportunities knowing maybe my social life, or sorority or “me-time” would take the back seat for the semester. I’m tired, get cranky sometimes and I can feel burnt-out but ultimately it feels so amazing to say I’m doing it all. Obviously if you are going to college, academics are your number one priority but this time is also meant for networking, working hard for your career path, and getting your foot in the door(s). It is awesome that I have the chance to grow with these opportunities and learn even more than what I’m learning from class. Moral of the story is – even if it seems like A LOT, and even if you’re hesitant about having FOMO or not having the time you want to watch Netflix, or whatever it is – do it. This is freakin GRIND season baby, make the absolute most of your college years and opportunities. Don’t be afraid to take things on.

That’s all I’ve got for today – I hope this cute lil update + motivate did exactly that for ya! Thank you as always, for reading and supporting me! Don’t forget to share this post, like and comment – you know the drill 🙂digital-signature-1-1.jpg

Changing My Major

I’M BACK Y’ALL! For good this time, I swear. For good this time, I swear.

For my big return to HB I’ve decided to get you up to speed on some of the changes I’ve navigated over this past year or so, the focus being *changing my major*!

So to begin, I am now a rising junior at Arizona State University – a change in which I am very excited for. But…this past school year didn’t necessarily go as I had hoped or planned and quite frankly I felt like I was sort of “rolling with the punches” for the majority of it. In the Fall I was having a bit of a lack in motivation – toward academics but also within my personal life. My sophomore year didn’t exactly start off the way I had anticipated it to and that realization was a harsh one for me. I found myself extremely un-interested in my school work – particularly my major’s curriculum. It seemed like everything I was once inspired by was now something I despised doing! I knew something was off but I couldn’t quite figure out how to handle the whole thing.

Fast forward to the very beginning of the Spring semester. I had just gotten home from one of my videography classes; a class in which I filmed, edited and presented my journalistic works. I dreaded going to this class every Monday and Wednesday because I knew it was something I didn’t enjoy and wasn’t very good at. On this particular day we had just presented our reels and I returned home feeling absolutely defeated. I called my mom, practically in tears and asked her for advice. We talked and talked and I finally realized how much my interests had changed, and how pointless it was to continue learning (and paying for!!) a major that was clearly no longer suited for me.

The following day I visited my advisor and we discussed alternative majors that were still available within my school (Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Comm.). After lots of thought and guidance I decided that I was no longer interested in becoming a broadcast journalist, but now determined to make a name for myself in public relations! My advisor and I crafted a schedule that better suited that degree path and I began taking my first PR class a few weeks later – only to LOVE it!

In the Fall semester I finished out with a GPA lower than I had ever had before – with both my parents and myself quite disappointed. In the Spring, after switching to a path that fit me, and my talents and interests – I finished with my highest GPA yet. And made it on the Dean’s List!

In summary, the point of this post isn’t to have current or prospective collegians questioning themselves, or even to talk about how easy it is to change majors. The point here is to expose how sometimes, things just need to change up. You don’t always know what you think you do – in terms of what’s best for you – and that’s ok! From my junior year in high school I believed broadcast journalism was my ticket to career-happiness, and it may have been for those few years! But I’ve changed, society has changed and my interests have changed. And yeah, it was scary, changing my career path just-like-that. But I’m better for it and honestly more content knowing that my education here will be focused on what I enjoy and what I’m good at.

SO be bold and change it up! Give yourself options, and allow yourself to find what really is best for you. And if that changes down the road?! cool freakin beans.

Thank you so much for reading along today, I hope you’re just as excited as I am for the upcoming content I’ve got planned! If you have any suggestions or things you’d like me to write about please head over to the contact page and let a girl know! 🙂 ❤
